Just as everything else in the garden is winding down, the chrysanthemums in our polytunnel are just getting going. November is their month, and we think they're one of the most underrated flowers there is.
Each wrap holds around 20 stems, grown here at the farm under cover: frilly spiders and soft, open singles in shades of rust, bronze, dusky pink and cream.
They're brilliant value for money because they really last well in the vase. Change the water every couple of days, give the stems a fresh snip, and they'll easily see you through two weeks or more. Forget everything you think you know about garage-forecourt chrysanths. These are something else entirely.
Available through November, while they last.
